What we repair

Damage we fix on leather sofas, sectionals and chairs

Cat claw scratches on a brown leather sofa

Cat and dog damage

Claw scratches, bite marks and chewed corners are filled, re-grained and color-matched so they blend into the leather.

Tears, cuts and holes

Supported from behind with a sub-patch, filled in thin layers and finished to the surrounding grain — strong enough for everyday use.

The leather we repair — and how

Most common

Protected (pigmented) leather

A colored finish on top of the hide. Water beads up on the surface. Scratches, cracks and wear repair almost invisibly, and the whole piece can be recolored.

Soft and natural

Semi-aniline leather

A light protective coat over dyed leather. Water soaks in slowly. Repairs blend well; we match both the color and the soft sheen.

What we don't repair: peeling bonded or faux leather. That surface keeps flaking after any repair, so replacement is the honest answer — we'll tell you from the photos. Small cuts, cracks and punctures in vinyl we can fix.
Repair or replace?

When a leather sofa is worth repairing — and when it is not

A new quality leather sofa usually costs $3,000 or more. Repairs in San Diego start at $400. From your photos we’ll tell you straight which side of the line your piece is on.

Worth repairing

  • Genuine leather with a solid frame and firm cushions
  • Scratches, tears, cracks, burns or stains in a few areas
  • Faded, patchy or worn color — even across the whole piece
  • Designer, heirloom or hard-to-replace furniture

Better to replace

  • Bonded or faux leather that is peeling or flaking
  • Leather torn or dried through across most cushions — that needs reupholstery
  • Inexpensive pieces where a repair would cost close to a new one
Our process

How we repair leather furniture at your home

  1. Clean and prepThe damaged area is deep-cleaned and the old finish and body oils are removed so the repair bonds.
  2. Repair the damageTears get a sub-patch from behind; cracks, scratches and holes are filled in thin layers and the grain is recreated.
  3. Match the colorWe mix the color on site against your leather in daylight and apply it in thin, even coats.
  4. Seal and protectA protective topcoat in the original sheen — matte, satin or gloss — so the repair wears like the rest of the piece.

Alex did an outstanding job fixing a dye transfer stain on a leather car seat. His work was beautiful (it looks brand new), his price was fair, and he was really pleasant to work with. I'd recommend him without hesitation.

Alexander did a great job fixing a small cut on our 1960 T-Bird back seat. The color and texture was better than our expectations! We finally had to tell Alex to stop as he is a true perfectionist! We also appreciated his honesty in telling us that our RV vinyl would be more practical to replace than repair. He could have repaired them, but advised us that the damage would continue do to poor quality of vinyl used by the manufacturer.

Alex did an amazing job fixing the dashboard crack on my truck! You can’t even tell it was there. Great work, very reasonable on the price and a pleasant person to deal with. I will likely have him come back to refresh my bottom front seat bolsters.

I had a vintage Chanel bag that needed a new top coat and Alexander and his staff provided amazing service, including home pick up and drop off. All throughout the process, Alexander was very responsive, and the bag came back beautiful. The price was incredibly reasonable, as well. I will definitely be a returning customer!

Leather furniture repair across San Diego County

San Diego is hard on leather. Strong sun through big windows fades cushions and armrests, dry Santa Ana winds pull moisture out of the hide, and pets add their share of scratches. We see it every week in homes from the coast to East County — and fix it on site, usually in one visit.
